Un’altra funzione della pelle, non meno importante delle altre, è la protezione dell’organismo dai raggi ultravioletti della luce solare. Infatti, grazie alla produzione di melanina, (questa produzione è il principio dell’abbronzatura), la pelle si dota di un filtro che non permette alle radiazioni di penetrare nelle cellule producendo radicali liberi e danneggiandone il DNA.
 
Un altro meccanismo con cui la pelle si difende in modo naturale è la secrezione di grasso. Questo può essere presente in modo più o meno marcato a seconda del tipo di pelle, ma la sua funzione è sempre la stessa: difendere la zona di confine tra ambiente intracorporeo e ambiente esterno.
 
Qualche consiglio per preservare al meglio le funzionalità della pelle:
 

    evitare di pulirla con eccessivi lavaggi con saponi e detergenti. Tuttavia, un buon livello di igiene della cute è fondamentale per evitare l’aggressione di agenti patogeni e l’insorgenza di malattie.

È bene ricordare di idratare la pelle con apposite creme e lozioni.
