Based on the parent material and process changes caused by exogenous labor, land in Indonesia can be divided into several types. The types of soil are described below.
a. Soil litosol
Litosol land had been developed recently. This is due to the influence of a weak climate, volcanic eruptions, and the topography is too oblique or wavy. In order litosol ground quickly formed in a few ways, such as by reforestation or other measures to accelerate the weathering process. Litosol land in mountainous areas are limestone and karst areas in Central Java, East Java, Madura, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and South.
b. Red-yellow podzolic soil
Red-yellow podzolic soil is soil that occurs from the weathering of rocks containing quartz in a wet climate with rainfall 2500-3500 mm / year. The soil types are common in the mountains, especially in the Nusa Tenggara. Red-yellow podzolic soil is suitable used for cultivation, rubber, tea, and coffee.
c. Soil organosol
Organosol land in Indonesia is commonly called peat. Soil organisms organosol derived from plants which are always flooded. As a result, the air circulation is not smooth, the sun is blocked by water marsh. In general, soil organosol has the following properties.
1) As a strong colloidal material that is able to bind water.
2) Contains mineral in accordance with the youngest category of bruinkool and steemkool.
3) Containing elements of C is about 58%, about 5.5% of H element, approximately 34.5% O, and N about 2%.
d. Alluvial soil
Alluvial soil is soil from the sediment sludge is brought streams. Has fertile alluvial soil properties, making it suitable for agriculture. Extensive alluvial plains located in eastern Sumatra, Java, northern, southern and central Kalimantan, and Papua south.
e. Volcanic soil
Volcanic soils are soils derived from volcanic rock weathering, either from lava or from volcanic ash that has been frozen. The area is not so extensive lava clots than in the volcanic ash. Examples of ground tuff volcanic soil is formed from volcanic ash and are very fertile. Tuff soil contained in Lampung, Palembang, Sumatra and West. Areas affected by volcanic eruptions and volcanic ash filled, such as Bandung, Garut, and surrounding areas suitable for agriculture because it is very fertile.
